How to transcribe Riverside exports is a download, then an upload. Riverside already recorded the session. You need the file off the project and into a transcript you can edit.

This is the click path. It is not the full record-to-publish loop, which lives in best Riverside transcription workflow. It is not a tool shopping list, which lives in Riverside alternatives for voice to text. If you are holding a Squadcast session or a Vimeo file instead, the same shape of job is how to transcribe Squadcast recordings and how to transcribe Vimeo downloads.

How to transcribe a Riverside export

  1. Open the Riverside project you recorded or manage.
  2. Download either the mixed master or the separate participant tracks.
  3. Upload that file to File Transcribe.
  4. Turn speaker labels on for a mix. Leave them off for a track that is one person.
  5. Rename speakers in the segment editor and fix the lines you will quote.
  6. Export text for show notes, or SRT/VTT if the episode is also video.

Guest try works on the homepage. A short episode can fit in the free allowance, about 50 minutes a month. A long episode, or a second one the same month, belongs on Pro (about $19, about 2,000 minutes) or Plus (about $49, about 5,000 minutes). Minutes are monthly. There are no credit packs. Caps are on pricing.

Mixed master or separate tracks

Riverside's download labels move. Do not memorize a button name from a blog. On the recording you own, look for a download of the session. You want one of these:

Mixed master

What it is
Everyone in one file, often an MP4 or a stereo mix
When to transcribe it
You need one transcript timed to the episode you will publish, and people mostly took turns

Separate tracks

What it is
One file per participant, often WAV
When to transcribe it
You care who said what, or one guest's side of the mix is wrecked

Separate tracks help speaker labels. Each file is mostly one voice, so you already know the name before any model guesses. Transcribe the host track and the guest track as their own jobs when you want clean quotes from each side. Or transcribe only the clean track when the other person was on a bad connection and the mix is unusable.

The mixed master is the right file when the transcript has to follow the video. One timeline, one upload, speaker labels on. You will still repair overlaps. Diarization does not sort out two people talking at once. If the crosstalk section matters, listen to it. A different app will not invent a clean turn boundary there.

For most episodes, pick one path and stay on it. Transcribing the mix and every stem "just in case" burns minutes and gives you four drafts of the same joke.

Podcast intent, once the file is yours: podcast episodes.

Download the export

After the session is done:

  1. Sign in to Riverside and open the recording.
  2. Find the download for files you are allowed to export. The wording shifts. You are looking for the combined video or audio, or the individual tracks.
  3. Save the mixed master if you want one transcript of the episode.
  4. Save separate WAVs if you want one voice per file.
  5. Prefer the original export over a tiny preview or a recompressed clip from a chat app.

If you cannot download, you may be a guest without export rights. Ask the host for the file. Do not scrape the room.

Name the files as they land. Something dull like episode-14-mix.mp4 and episode-14-guest.wav saves you from uploading the countdown track later.

Format notes if you re-wrap the download somewhere else: MP4 to text, WAV to text. You do not need to convert a normal Riverside MP4 or WAV before upload.

Upload, then set speakers on purpose

Go to File Transcribe and drop the file in. There is no Riverside bot and no meeting notetaker in this step. The studio already captured the audio.

  • Mix: speaker labels on. The draft should show two or more speakers. Rename them once in the segment editor (Host, and the guest's real name). Later lines follow the label.
  • One person's track: speaker labels off. A cough, a laugh from the other room, or a long pause can become Speaker 2 if you leave diarization on. You know who the track is. Type that name yourself if you want it on the export.
  • A noisy guest track you are using instead of the mix: labels off, same reason. You isolated it so you would not have to guess.

Play the first minute before you edit spelling. If the wrong human is on the label, fix that first. Product names and acronyms come after. The repair order is the same one in how to add speaker labels to transcripts.

Export what you will actually publish

Show notes and an episode page want TXT or DOCX. YouTube or another video host wants SRT or VTT from the timeline you will publish. If you transcribe separate tracks, those transcripts are for quotes and cleanup. The caption file should come from the mixed master, or from the cut you export after the edit, so the timestamps match the picture.

If you still plan to delete twenty minutes in the edit, transcribe the cut you will publish, not the raw hour. Otherwise you will proof jokes that never air.

Riverside may also offer text inside the product on some plans. Confirm that on their site. Use it when a rough in-app draft is enough and you never leave Riverside. Download and upload when you want the segment editor, a portable transcript, or caption files for a host outside Riverside.

Mistakes that waste the export

The preview file. A small share copy is harder to hear and worse to label. Download the session export.

Speakers on a solo stem. You asked the model to find a second person who is not there.

Trusting the mix on heavy crosstalk. Separate tracks exist for that episode. Use them for the quotes, and keep the mix for the caption timeline.

Sending a meeting bot to a backup Zoom while Riverside is already recording. You will get two transcripts and a guest who did not agree to a notetaker. The Riverside file is the one to transcribe.

Starting from the workflow guide and never downloading. The other article covers recording habits and publishing. You still have to click the export.

FAQ

Should I transcribe Riverside separate tracks or the mixed master?

Separate tracks when speaker labels matter or one guest's audio is bad in the mix. The mixed master when you need a single transcript timed to the published episode. You can quote from the tracks and caption from the master.

Does Riverside transcribe the episode for me?

Some plans include text in the product. Confirm the current feature on Riverside. This guide is the path when you download the export and transcribe it in an editor you control.

Will speaker diarization be perfect on a Riverside mix?

No. Clean turn-taking labels well. Crosstalk, similar voices, and a bad remote mic still merge or flip names. Separate tracks reduce that job because each file is already one person.

Can I get SRT from a Riverside export?

Yes. Upload the master you will publish, edit the lines, and export SRT or VTT. Put that file where the video actually lives.

Is this the same job as a Squadcast or Vimeo download?

Same shape, different library. Squadcast sessions: how to transcribe Squadcast recordings. A video you manage on Vimeo: how to transcribe Vimeo downloads.

Do this next

Open the last Riverside project, download the mix or the separate tracks, and upload one of them on File Transcribe. Rename the speakers before you rewrite a sentence. If the episode is the thing you publish every week, the broader loop is best Riverside transcription workflow.
