SOC 2 friendly AI transcription tools is a procurement search, not a feature comparison. SOC 2 is an attestation a vendor pays an auditor for. It is not a magic accuracy badge. Tools can be careful with files and still have no report. Tools can have a report and still be the wrong product for a journalist with one WAV.
This guide is how to shop that questionnaire without lying to yourself. We do not claim File Transcribe is SOC 2 certified. Check privacy for what we actually do with files. For enterprise caption programs see Verbit review and File Transcribe vs Verbit.
Confirm every security claim on the vendor's current trust page. Reports expire. Blog posts do not replace a PDF.
Direct answer
- Decide if you need a SOC 2 Type II report (most RFPs) or just "we use a serious host."
- Ask vendors for the current report, not a blog badge.
- Read what is in scope (production vs a marketing site).
- If the job is one team's recordings and no questionnaire, use an upload workspace and move on.
What SOC 2 actually buys you
A Type II report says an auditor looked at a vendor's controls over a period. It does not mean your transcript cannot leak if someone forwards the TXT. It does not mean the model never mishears "not."
Use it for: vendor review, insurance questionnaires, "are they a real company."
Do not use it for: picking the best transcript editor.
Who usually has paperwork (verify on their site)
These names often appear in SOC 2 conversations because they sell to IT. Look up the current report yourself.

Cloud STT (AWS, Azure, Google)

Meeting bots (Otter, Fireflies)
- Why procurement asks
- They join calls, IT cares
- Typical fit
- Live notes, not file bureaus
If a vendor will not share a report under NDA, they are not "SOC 2 friendly" for your RFP, regardless of marketing.
File Transcribe: honest placement
File Transcribe is upload-first software: guest try, editor, SRT/VTT on paid plans, short retention for guests (see privacy). Hosting and processing go through third parties (we name them in the privacy policy).
Use File Transcribe when the blocker is getting text from a Zoom MP4, not passing a security review.
Do not list File Transcribe as SOC 2 certified. If your legal team needs a Type II report before anyone uploads, shortlist vendors who will email the packet. Then transcribe.

A practical buying path
| Your situation | Do this |
|---|---|
| Startup, no security questionnaire | File Transcribe or similar DIY |
| Customer asked "are you SOC 2?" about your product | Your auditor, not your transcription tab |
| You must send their files to a SOC 2 vendor | Happy Scribe, Rev, Verbit, or your cloud STT |
| Mix of internal drafts and public captions | DIY internally, contracted captions for public video |

Questions to send vendors (copy this)
- Current SOC 2 Type II report and period
- Subprocessors (where audio goes)
- Retention and deletion for source files and transcripts
- Whether meeting bots are in scope if they sell those
- Data residency if you need it
If they answer with a landing page and no PDF, keep shopping.
FAQ
Is SOC 2 the same as HIPAA or GDPR?
No. Different regimes. A SOC 2 report does not make a tool a HIPAA BA by itself. GDPR is a law, not an audit logo.
Are AI transcription tools SOC 2 by default?
No. Only vendors who completed an audit and will share it.
Can I use File Transcribe and still pass my customer's review?
If the customer reviews your company, maybe. If they review every subprocessors' SOC 2, you need vendors who produce reports. Ask your lawyer, not a blog.
Does a meeting bot need extra review?
Usually yes. A bot in the call is a different risk than an upload after the meeting.
Bottom line
SOC 2 friendly means "will share a current report," not "best captions." Use Happy Scribe, Rev, Verbit, or cloud STT when the questionnaire is the job. Use File Transcribe when the job is the file and nobody asked for a Type II PDF.
